Working out and eating right isn’t a cure-all. But….recent studies like this one are finding that obesity is one major risk factor for increased severity of coronavirus complications.

Along with that, researchers are studying how a regular exercise program can protect against Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). Note- ARDS is not COVID-19 or coronavirus but rather one of the leading factors in COVID-19 related deaths. You can read about this here.

In case you’re not the click on an article and read type here it is- regular exercise produces good things in the body. One of those good things is extracellular superoxide dismutase (EcSOD). EcSOD is an antioxidant that protects against acute lung disease and other diseases. Another plus…more muscle equals more EcSOD so weightlifting should be a part your fitness routine.

The Big Takeaway

You need to be as healthy as possible. It started yesterday. You don’t buy car insurance after the wreck. Many Americans have led a sedentary lifestyle or at the very least not put a premium on their fitness. This is evidenced by our numbers of obesity, diabetic and cardiovascular related deaths. Car wrecks. Car wrecks all over the place.

The CrossFit Space

Many of my peers are working hard to continue running their gyms by programming at home workouts, loaning out equipment and running Zoom or other online classes. Why? You might say it’s so we can survive. So we can still make money during this pandemic. But I’d say there’s another reason. A bigger reason. We care. We care about our members and communities. It’s more than just a business. Yes, of course we want the business to survive. But more than that we want to see your families thrive.

We know know without a shadow of a doubt we’re making our part of the world As Healthy As Possible.

What should I do now?

We’re currently posting our Home Workouts on our site. They include a warm up and can be completed with minimal equipment. Grab some dumbbells and follow along! If you need to use a light weight or only complete a portion of each workout…no problem! Now is the time to get moving. Do a little each day to ensure you’re moving the needle the right direction towards health.
