Britteney’s CrossFit journey began a year ago. Her commitment and dedication has paid off greatly in a very short amount of time. Since beginning CrossFit, she has run her first half and full marathons and is currently training for her second marathon. In addition to these huge milestones, Britteney completed her very first CrossFit Games Open this year. We asked her to share with us about her journey to CrossFit, through the 2016 CrossFit Games Open and beyond!

“It took me a couple of months to muster up the courage I needed to join CrossFit Waxahachie, but what was ultimately the tipping point for me to make the switch were my goals. I had specific weight loss and strength goals that were not being met by the classes I was taking in a gym. The biggest change I have seen since joining is my confidence level in myself has gone up, not just by losing weight but being able to physically do things I never thought I would be able to do. Coach Chris is so encouraging and makes you feel that you can lift or do any movement he throws at you in a WOD.

There was no question on whether or not I was going to be apart of the 2016 Open. Hearing the other athletes talking about their experience from previous Opens, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. Everything about The Open was my favorite, from the team spirit to the crazy skits and of course the WODs.
Pull ups are my favorite movement, all day!! Before CrossFit Waxahachie I literally had the upper body strength of a newborn giraffe! Even in basic training when you are suppose to be at your peak physical fitness I could not get a pull up. I absolutely love doing pull ups because it was something I never in a million years I thought I would be able to do!

I don’t think I would be able to say “I ran a marathon” without CFW. Running a marathon takes a lot of mental and physical strength. Along with an immense amount of endurance. Not only have I shaved time off my splits but running has become easier for me and I can run longer distances without fatigue. Having increased hip and core strength and stability has improved my posture while I run and greatly reduced my chances of injury.

The community and the awesome coaches are what make CFW so special and so dear to my heart! Everyone is so welcoming and encouraging, it’s like having a second family. We all lift each other up to reach our goals and achieve new heights.

If you are considering joining CrossFit Waxahachie, Do it! If I could go back in time and make myself join sooner I would in a heartbeat!”
